Mention the word ‘networking’ and you will get one of two reactions:
- Ugh! I hate networking. It doesn’t work.
- Yeah, networking is great. I love it!
So why do people feel so differently about networking? I believe it’s because:
- Many people aren’t doing it correctly and, therefore, struggle and often fail when attempting to ‘network’
- They have misconceptions about what networking really is about
Why network? One way to identify job openings to read online job advertisements and respond to these openings. But it’s estimated that only 20% of all job openings are posted online. Many desirable positions are not advertised and their existence is never known to the general public.
If most job openings are not publicized, then how does anyone find out about them? Usually, it’s through networking or mailing a Job Magnet Letter to potential hiring managers.
This Job Search Networking training module is here to dispel the myths and give you the tools, knowledge and strategies you need so you can network effectively and achieve positive results.
