Value Engineering Leader, Design to Value & Quality Engineering

Carrier is seeking a senior engineer for the should cost team within Engineering Productivity and Cost’s Design to Value & Quality team. The candidate selected for this position will work within the team to plan, execute, and report on should cost projects. The candidate will engage with Carrier’s business units & the WHQ Supply Chain organization to follow requests through the should cost process within the Design to Value & Quality team.
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Candidate must have a sound understanding of mechanical assemblies.
  • Participate actively in the Carrier Direct Procurement activities related to should cost modeling of purchased components.
  • Plan, execute, and report on should cost projects assigned by the Design to Value & Quality team leader.
  • Establish and refine the should cost workflow and request process.
  • Create and maintain the logistics of material movement throughout the should cost laboratory
  • Perform product teardowns and document the overall process
  • Utilize standardized should cost software tools, document reports, and present to leadership.
  • Work in close collaboration with supply chain category leaders and business units to drive the broad technology and procurement strategy for various commodities.

About the Role:

The Value Engineering Manager will own the US Value Engineering team to deliver product launches to existing Kichler products to improve product portfolio life cycle. The Value Engineering team will work collaboratively with other functional areas within the Operations group as well as other organizational teams on various re-sourcing, cost out, and feature revision projects while ensuring product integrity, reliability, and overall implementation success.

What You Will Do:

Lead a multi-functional team that defines cost and productivity opportunities and achieves timely execution of projects to meet Kichler defined targets. Opportunities include, but are not limited to re-sourcing, value engineering, supplier management, and manufacturing/process improvement.

Lead project from concept to launch including conceptual and detailed design, component and material selection, simulation/FEA, safety approvals, validation and production implementation.

Work closely with multi-functional team (Sourcing, Quality Assurance, suppliers, etc.) to achieve timely project execution for all planned opportunities.

Drive resolution of conflicts between projects and functional organizations.

Own the planning and implementation of multiple projects over a fiscal year.

Lead in development of processes and documentation.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Engineering Degree from accredited institution (Mechanical or Electrical Engineer)
  • 5+ years professional engineering experience
  • Proven experience in consumer-packaged goods, especially LED lighting product design ideal
  • Proven experience with Design/Development, Operational realities and Global Manufacturing
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods preferred, e.g. die casting, injection molding, extrusion, product assembly, etc.
