Student Advisor
Pacific College of Health and Science – New York, NY 10038 (Financial District area)

Pacific College of Health and Science is hiring for the position of Student Advisor at our New York Campus.

Job Summary:

The Student Advisor provides academic advisement and develops educational plan options for students across all programs; conducts student meetings and keeps accurate records; answers and responds to student email and telephone queries; explains and offers guidance on programs of study; processes and approves specially scheduled exams; provides referrals for academic and non-academic support; monitors student attendance and communicates with at-risk students; conducts admissions qualification reviews, transfer credit evaluations, and interviews; helps coordinate comprehensive exams and new student orientation; and attends appropriate department and general staff meetings.

Essential Functions:

Primary-

· Provide advising and academic planning for students across all programs. This includes developing academic plans, providing assistance with course registration, reviewing requests for schedule modifications, creating remedial course plans for students with academic difficulty, and liaising with other offices as needed to resolve student issues.

  • Conduct student meetings (by appointment) in person or by phone and keep accurate records.

· Review applications to the college, conduct admissions qualifications reviews and transfer credit evaluations, interview applicants, and make admission decisions.

· Address issues of student wellness, including referring students to the Student Resource Services for personal counseling.

· Coordinate the comprehensive exams each term, including, communication with students, tracking exam registration and approvals, preparing exam documents and supplies, hiring and assigning proctors, coordinating room assignments and exam schedule, scanning and uploading results, assisting with faculty review and item analysis, and attending comprehensive exam committee meetings.

· Monitors student attendance and communicates with at-risk students.

· Be familiar with state and national requirements for licensure and be able to communicate these requirements or refer students as needed.

  • Conduct degree audits for licensing exams, comprehensive exams, clinical progression, and graduation.
  • Process, approve, and coordinate the scheduling of specialty scheduled exams.
  • Assist in the coordination of new student orientation and other student services events.
  • Assist in student retention initiatives.

· Attend and participate in various committees, including the Student Success Committee, Curriculum Advisory Committee, and Department Chair meetings.

  • Develop strong collaborations with other administrative departments including, but not limited to, Registrar, Admissions, and Financial Aid.
  • Other duties as assigned

International Student Advisor/DSO
ASA College – Brooklyn, NY 11201

Responsibilities

  • Maintain F-1 student’s related administrative work.
  • Enter students’ information and produce forms I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for non-immigrant students) through SEVIS system.
  • Assure that all the reporting requirements are met in a timely manner.
  • Understand and comply with college’s and government policies/regulations.
  • Provide guidance to students regarding F-1 student status, procedures, and policies. This includes assisting students in person, over the phone, and by email.
  • Respond to inquiries from the HSI and SEVP.
  • Review and update students’ files to assure compliance with the admission and federal requirements and ensure that all necessary documentation is received prior to student’s admission and through student’s educational journey.
  • Detect and initiate data corrections with the SEVP response center when needed.
  • Update students’ information in SEVIS and school’s database using responsible internal staff.
  • Generate, analyze and act on internal reports on students’ progress, attendance, academic and financial standing.
  • Keep current on SEVP and immigration updates pertaining to international students and USCIS forms and provide such updates to the team of admissions and students on assigned campuses (reinstatement, change of status, reduced course load RLC, curricular practical training, CPT, optional practical training, OPT, economic and academic hardship).
  • Grant authorizations for an annual vacation, reduced course load for various reasons, CPT, OPT, travel.
  • Update, implement, and execute new student orientation and info workshops.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for DSO position are as follows:

Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience

Candidate must:

  • Have at least two years of DSO experience in a technical school or junior college.
  • Demonstrate great knowledge of regulations pertaining F-1 status holders and ability to apply proper regulation to a specific situations.
  • Possess great knowledge of SEVIS system and be an advanced SEVIS user.
  • Be extremely detailed-oriented with great analytical skills.
  • Be able to make important decisions under pressure.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills as well as effective external and internal customer service skills.
  • Have excellent communication and written skills (native-like English level).
  • Be able to work with a highly diverse group of students and staff.
  • Exhibit creative and proactive problem-solving approach to conflict resolution.

Student Advisor

JOB DESCRIPTION

Counsel and conduct follow-up of any student who is in need of guidance and counseling

Generate and maintain individual profiles of students registered in the specified departments.

Assist students whose problems and concerns would impact their academic performance.

Visit classes to conduct information campaign on the Student Advisement program.

Serve as liaison between students and any faculty and/or staff that the students may have difficulty relating to.

Coordinate with faculty members for their students’ referrals.

Review the At Risk Evaluation Form from each instructor; refer students to the Learning Center for tutoring.

Work closely with the Learning Center to help students with academic needs in the various courses.
