This role will be part of the team that is responsible for building and maintain the financial models necessary to forecast, evaluate and track the financial performance of our renewable energy projects. This role also participates in the due diligence of acquisitions and disposals of assets as well as in the project finance process. This person will be responsible for multiple other ad hoc projects as assigned, which will cover other aspects related to project finance and forecasting for X-Elio’s US renewable energy projects.
This role will be part of the team that is responsible for the marketing, structuring, negotiation and closing of tax equity and debt investments into the company’s portfolio of utility scale solar projects, solar + energy storage projects, and standalone energy storage projects. This person will be responsible for multiple other ad hoc projects as assigned, which will cover other aspects related to project finance and forecasting for X-Elio’s US renewable energy projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead the sourcing and origination of debt and tax equity for the company’s growing development pipeline.
- Participate in negotiations with investors for the company’s portfolio solar and energy storage projects, including development and construction debt, and tax equity.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining sophisticated financial models (e.g. joint venture, partnership flip, lease pass-through), and
- Managing transaction execution and financial closing process for multiple projects at various stages of development.
- Support project development and acquisition efforts by partnering with other internal business units (origination, development, operations, legal) to internalize financing conditions and requirements into company processes.
- Expand the company’s relationships with renewable energy project investors.
- Own the financial modeling process for project evaluations, project financings and assist in project-level due diligence both internally and externally.
- Represent the company at project finance and industry related events.
- Provide Insights and tools to better understand and improve capital efficiency
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, engineering, or other technical discipline; MBA/MS a plus
- 3-5 years of related experience working in project finance, preferably in investment banking, debt capital markets, or with a project developer
- Applied working knowledge of finance, accounting, commercial, tax and legal aspects of renewable energy project development and financing
- Knowledge of renewable energy a plus.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
- Excellent analytical and communication skills required
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, make decisions, prioritize and meet assigned deadlines in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
- Strong work ethic, a high degree of detail orientation, and an extreme sense of urgency

Position Description
The Director of Project Finance position, Reporting to Head of Project Finance and other Company partners, and will guide the Company in sourcing and managing of investment projects, equity and debt financing, as well as analyzing different markets to invest in.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinating the strategy and executing the plan to raise warehouse debt, term debt, tax equity and/or loan funding capital to support growth in the utility scale business.
- Interface with debt and equity investors in the solar space – source, negotiate and close tax equity and loan commitments.
- Lead finance transactions, negotiations, due diligence, and modeling.
- Work with existing capital providers to effectively structure the capitalization of solar assets.
- Develop and maintain successful relationships with financing parties, including tax equity investors, lenders, project investors and others.
- Lead or assist on evaluating M&A opportunities and Closing/Negotiating Purchase and Sale Opportunities
- Lead detailed financial analysis of various financing options and drive selection and execution of preferred approach, with strong focus on timing, budget, and ability to find solutions.
- Manage corporate finance compliance requirements including budgets, cash flow forecasts and other quarterly reporting requirements.
- Play a key team role, collaborate with strategic investors, and present associated materials.
- Be a manager for more junior finance people and lead by example, both in knowledge and work ethic.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years experience in solar and/or energy project finance, renewable energy, or investment banking.
- Minimum Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics or related; Masters preferred.
- Expertise with the solar development process, capital requirements and various tax equity structures such as Inverted Lease and Partnership Flip.
- Proven track record for leading successful transactions and closings under tight deadlines.
- Active network and relationships with tax equity and debt providers in the solar space.
- Expertise in financial modeling (cash flow forecasts, project scenarios analysis, project risk and return) and documentation (management of relevant financial closing documentation, leading due diligence and supporting team during commercial negotiations).
- Expertise and understanding of relevant tax and GAAP regulations, contractual matters and analytical models.
