Job Overview

This role will involve leading and managing legal research on topics across all legal disciplines and jurisdictions, as well as technical research related to cryptocurrencies and other digital assets. Under supervision of the President, performs confidential paralegal and legal analytical support and performs other related duties.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:*

  • Draft, review and make edits to contracts.

Legal Analyst
BigCommerce– Austin, TX

BigCommerce, named a “Best Place to Work” in Austin in 2017, is looking for a Legal Analyst to join our lean, top-notch Legal team in our Austin Four Points (Headquarters) office.

As a key member of the team, you will work closely with our in-house attorneys to provide support and guidance on legal initiatives and collaborate frequently with other departments on various projects, contracts and matters requiring legal input.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organization skills, be able to work at a fast pace and have strong attention to detail. This is an entry-level role ideal for a recent graduate ready to get their feet wet in pursuit of a career in legal.

What You’ll Do

  • Investigate, prioritize, and manage all escalated requests for legal review and present the resulting research to attorneys by providing detailed background, analyzing risk vs. benefit, anticipating areas of conflict and proposing creative solutions
  • Clearly communicate legal responses and recommendations to applicable teams and stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain repositories of legal responses and create legal resources for use/reference by applicable teams within the organization
  • Work with attorneys to identify legal risks to the business, conduct investigations and make recommendations for solutions
  • Identify and implement process improvements within the Legal team and with stakeholders in other departments
  • Conduct thorough initial review of contracts in relation to internal legal thresholds and criteria
  • Review, negotiate and revise nondisclosure agreements and procurement contracts (with support of our attorneys)
  • Assist attorneys with preparation, review and negotiation of other legal documents and redlines
  • Draft routine letters and other legal correspondence
  • Assist with developing best practice policies, playbooks and automation across various contract lifecycles
  • Review contracts for completeness and accuracy, including but not limited to ensuring documents are properly signed and retrieving additional information when necessary
  • Manage BigCommerce’s contracting process by tracking authorizations and correspondence
  • Monitor and maintain data quality within BigCommerce’s contract management system
  • Handle miscellaneous administrative tasks including managing contract files and templates for the Legal team, locating agreements, uploading and organizing fully executed copies of legal documents, etc.
  • Assist attorneys and other teams with ad hoc research and projects as necessary

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong interest in the legal field and/or in pursuit of a career in legal
  • Fast learner with strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
  • SaaS or technology company experience is a plus, but not required
