Experiential Designer, Huemen

HARMAN has always placed great value on the design and execution of its products and services. In 2018, the three internal design groups across the 4 divisions were reorganized into a single agency-model design organization. This design organization is named “Huemen”. Huemen will continue to deliver and lead the world-class design across all of HARMAN in the disciplines of Industrial Design (ID), User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX), as well Marketing Services and Future Experiences in Auto and Home.

Position Summary

Huemen is looking for an Experiential Designer to join a new team focused on all creative efforts for the Harman portfolio of global audio brands. Which includes JBL, Harman/Kardon, and AKG.The Experiential Designer will work with the Senior Art Director and Team lead to transform creative ideas into tangible experiences through 2D & 3D elements. The Experience Designer will be responsible for overseeing projects from proposal through execution, managing all facets of the process from art direction, consumer journey, and design development to print files and fabrication drawings. Additionally, the experiential designer will be a key proponent in the evolution of the agency, and the elevation of our clients marketing efforts.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role will have no direct or indirect reports and will be part of an 8 person creative team focused on servicing Harman marketing efforts and elevating the marketing services offering within Huemen.

Job Responsibilities

  • Self-motivated, well organized, and up to challenges of ever-changing timelines, requests, and deliverables.
  • Develops breakthrough, culturally relevant visuals and environments for creative campaigns experiential initiatives.
  • Creates mood boards / floorplans / 3D renderings/ elevations / mock ups / diagrams.
  • Creates production and mechanical files for print and fabrication of scenic elements
  • Collaborates with Senior Art Director to create the dimensional expression for all brand campaigns and creative initiatives. Developing and maintaining visual tone, consistency, and quality across all internal and consumer facing communications and environments.
  • Develops and maintains brand guidelines for a variety of brands and initiatives.
  • Successfully translate concepts and ideas into dimensional ideas for retail, events, exhibits and other physical consumer activations; able to demonstrate effective work in multiple formats including but not limited to mobile applications.
  • Work with other designers, user experience architects, and Marketers to achieve the vision (a flexible attitude to collaboration is essential).
  • Adopt responsibility for agency-wide initiatives.

Position Requirements

Must demonstrate a fresh and culturally relevant perspective on design & innovation, and the ability to understand and translate the latest pop culture, fashion, graphic, and design trends into creative marketing outputs. Must have a mastery of dimensional design, typography, layout and other general design principals.

  • 5+ years design experience with a top-notch visual aesthetic.
  • Multi-platform experience is a must.
  • Must be able to bring dimensional ideas to life using current 3D software options. Prefer Maya, 3D Max, SketchUp.
  • Mastery of InDesign, photoshop, and Illustrator are a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate client message into effective communications across full experiential disciplines.

The Experiential Brand Design (EBD) studio is a growing practice within Vocon. Our mission is to design experiences that speak, inform, connect, guide and generate positive impact. We create emotional connections within the built environment by communicating a brand’s unique story at every touchpoint. We reach beyond the surface of a brand to discover our clients at their core, uncovering the meaningful storylines that have the power to shift perception.
Role Description:
As a part of the EBD studio you’ll work within a collaborative group of strategists, designers and architects while developing strategies, designing experiential storytelling, implementing signage systems and creating immersive environments. As a team member you’ll bring a sense of drive, an appreciation for learning and an ability to work with others to push design. You’ll also come to the table with great communication skills, attention to detail, and a healthy dose of self-awareness. In addition, you’ll be agile, receptive to change, and excited to build something new and experience it evolve.
As an EBD Senior Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for the management of clients, projects and studio staffing. You’ll work closely with the Creative Director to develop appropriate project scopes and budgets while also ensuring the project is properly staffed and scheduled. You’ll also be immersed into the greater Vocon structure as you work with project managers from other studios to ensure cross-studio projects are effectively coordinated and working in unison. In addition, you will be client facing and expected to grow and maintain strong client relationships. Most importantly, you help keep our team focused and aligned.
Bachelor’s degree in business, management, design, or similar.
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience with project management, preferably within a field of design (most preferably within Experiential Graphic Design).

Experiential Design Lead (In-House Creative Services)

Reporting to the Creative Director and working collaboratively with internal Partnerships & Experience leads and Experiential Marketing agency, the Experience Design Lead will co-create holistic Brand Experiences that contextualize the American Express Brand, Card Member benefits, and Global Brand Strategy in unexpected ways, helping us to reach a new generation of Card Members and deliver against the ambitious goal to be the most creative department in the Fortune 500.
Supporting a broad range of experiential marketing activations and initiatives, the Experience Design Lead will be responsible for leading the creative strategy across the development of activation concepts, marketing and promotional assets, to create a thoughtful visual narrative throughout the customer journey. The focus and skillsets required for each project vary, from art direction to agency management to hands-on design, and the candidate will work closely with and support the Creative Director to ensure the delivery of best-in-class creative.
To be successful in this role, the candidate will be the ultimate design generalist – equal parts experience designer, creative strategist, and graphic designer – a big picture thinker who understands that the details and design systems matter. Local Projects is currently seeking a Project Manager with experience in exhibition design to help lead teams that shape the future of museums and public spaces.

This position requires excellence in initial project scoping and managing scopes for the internal and client teams, as well as excellent time management, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage positive client relationships. The ideal Project Manager needs to be able to conceptualize the project and maintain the big picture view through concept, design, production, launch and installation phases.

Candidates must have a strong understanding of the exhibition design process, including knowledge of architectural design phases and the various sub-consultants required to support the design process. Extra consideration will be given to candidates with experience in interactive and linear media production.

Candidates should have minimum of 3 years of relevant experience managing projects from concept through installation at a client facing level on exhibition and experiential design engagements. Candidates should have a strong foundation in design processes and project administration standards as well as a high comfort level developing and maintaining budgets and schedules, interfacing with clients and working with interdisciplinary teams.

Our projects demand very special individuals, who can both drive and shadow the creative process while producing easy to comprehend status reports, presentations and updates for clients and collaborators. They must be able to lead as well as collaborate with a strong design team as well as complex, intelligent clientele.

Job Description

We are a team of designers working across brands within CNX, a Cond é Nast agency.

We exist to envision and create beautiful, compelling designs. We think beyond the norm to advance the organization into new and emerging spaces. Our work provides a platform on which brand and editorial work can thrive. We believe that a well-formed culture is an essential ingredient for producing work that changes culture.

The designer will work in conjunction with CNX experiential design, creative and project teams to develop interactive, audience-centered environments. The designer will be required to handle multiple projects at once, and will report to the Art Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Imagine and execute dynamic spaces:
    • Apply appropriate design methodologies and utilize content to “tell a story.”
    • Integrate furnishings, rentals, scenic pieces, custom-fabricated items, sculptural elements, and high-impact graphics to enhance overall visitor experience.
  • Effectively create mood boards and lookbooks to convey the atmosphere and feel of the environment and provide visual details of preliminary project vision.
  • Diagram out major spatial program areas and their relationships to each other.
  • Communicate design intent and experiential intent through development of 3D computer-generated concept renderings, photo-composites, hand-drawn sketches, and graphics, and be able to direct others to do so.
  • Create comprehensive documentation packages for review by the internal team and the external client, highlighting all design features of the space. Documents to include the following:
    • Scaled floor plans and elevations
    • Polished renderings (at multiple stages throughout the design process)
    • Furniture and decor boards including all material and finish selections
    • Graphics and branding previews, key-coded to elevations and floor plans
  • Direct fabricators on creative vision by providing scaled/dimensioned diagrams, drawings, 3D models, etc. to clearly illustrate project needs.
  • Support design leads and team members by proactively driving the design process.
  • Present design work to senior stakeholders and clients.

Specific Requirements:

  • Ability to comprehend floor plans and architectural drawings
  • Knowledge of graphic design and mechanical production ( highly preferred )
  • Environmental rendering ability ( highly preferred )
  • Software and programs:
    • Mac OS
    • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop)
    • SketchUp and/or other 3D modeling/visualization software ( SketchUp preferred )
    • Keynote
    • Microsoft Office Suite

Education:

  • BA required in architecture, interior design, exhibition design, industrial design, graphic design, or related field with a strong design portfolio
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
