General Summary:

  • The Manager works with firm-wide industry and practice group leaders, partners and other departmental managers to generate business leads through expanding existing client work, identifying new opportunities and driving cross-selling. The Manager also works to develop and implement marketing plans and strategies for attorneys/groups, while collaborating with all other members of the marketing team as well as other firm functional area teams to achieve the firm’s marketing and business development objectives.
  • Guided by firm management, the marketing & business development department, and practice groups, the Manager will identify opportunities to increase visibility for the assigned practice group and teams
  • The Manager will also expand the client base by proactively seeking opportunities for pitches/proposals, presentations, seminars, appropriate affiliations, events (both NP and external), marketing materials, and other targeted methods that drive new business development and cross-selling. The Manager will be expected to work closely with all assigned practice groups, teams and regional offices to ensure effective deployment of practice group initiatives in local markets and to attain synergies for all marketing and business development programs. Of critical importance will be the Manager’s ability to ensure that client service and satisfaction are attained in all relevant areas.

Responsibilities:

The Manager will manage the performance and execution of the following essential functions.

  • With practice group chairs, team leaders, Marketing & Business Development leadership, and others, develop strategic plans to drive the business development and marketing goals of the assigned practice groups and teams.
  • Incorporate knowledge of the practice group and teams into firm-wide business strategies; anticipate client needs and trends and develop responsive solutions to support practice groups and individual attorneys.
  • Develop strong, responsive relationships with practice group and team leaders to gain consensus on and to direct strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with other marketing and business development colleagues and others to ensure marketing and BD plans integrate with and support firm-wide marketing and BD strategies and strategies of other practice groups.
  • Supervise and mentor a Business Development Specialist assigned to support practice group and teams

Business Development and Marketing Programs Implementation:

  • Working closely with practice group and team leaders and marketing and BD to (a) produce client development seminars, firm-sponsored events, conferences and trade shows including working with IPED, the firm’s conference company. Take seminars from concept through all stages of implementation and presentation, including identifying attendees, locations, materials development and production, facility liaison, lead follow up, etc.; (b) identify speaking and sponsorship opportunities, target appropriate membership opportunities, etc., to create visibility and to advance new business goals; (c) working closely with tactical specialists, ensure that new lateral partner hires are effectively promoted; that their specialized knowledge and association with the firm is strategically communicated to clients and business communities, etc.; (d) draft responses for and provide strategic direction into relevant surveys and promotional opportunities to increase awareness and recognition of select practice group and teams; (e) provide thought leadership executed through direct mail and email, including Client Alerts, digital and social media, etc.; (f) develop effective, strategically focused marketing materials; ensure that practice group descriptions, attorney bios, etc., present a consistent image, are aligned with practice group and team strategies and are continually updated to reflect changes.
  • The Manager ensures appropriate follow up from marketing and business development programs in order to track opportunities or new business resulting from these initiatives.
  • The Manager works closely with the firm’s Proposal Development and Competitive Intelligence teams to conduct research and obtain market intelligence on industries, trade associations, clients, prospects, and prepares tailored promotional letters, pitches, PowerPoint presentations and proposals to clients and prospects. Also prepares tailored responses to RFPs, RFIs and RFQs, from initial intake through final submission.
  • Develop and maintain collateral materials including a representative experience database, practice area descriptions/brochures, and website content.
  • Plan and participate in practice group, team, and industry initiative meetings and attend practice group, team, and industry initiative leader meetings.
  • Manage and monitor budgets for the practice group and industry teams.

Collaboration with Marketing & Business Development Department:

  • Work closely with Marketing & Business Development Department and professional staff firm-wide to ensure seamless deployment of practice group and team marketing and BD programs and strategies.
  • Work closely with the Communications Department to develop strategies and written communications, press releases, digital media strategies and content, etc. to promote the practice group, teams and firm’s successes. The Manager also provides content for the website, firm collateral, and internal communications.

Professional Expertise:

  • Remain highly informed of relevant industry trends and developments, business practices and structures, and develop this knowledge into targeted and strategically focused programs and recommendations associated with assigned Practice Group and teams.

Senior Business Development Specialist, Core Services

Role Summary

This position reports directly to the firm’s Senior Business Development Manager of the Core Services Team.

The Senior Business Development Specialist will be responsible for producing clear and effective customized responses to cross-practice formal proposals (i.e. RFPs, RFIs), drafting, editing and maintaining targeted pitch and other marketing collateral. This centralized and high-profile role will require frequent collaboration with our other business development team members in the US and internationally, internal and external communications group, and other administration personnel on a regular basis. As a key member of the core services function, the Senior Business Development Specialist is expected to develop a strong understanding of the firm’s business operations and strategic objectives and to mentor and help develop junior members of the team.

In addition, the Senior Business Development Specialist of Core Services will assist and drive the partners for select practice groups in generating revenue through strategic business development activities; raise the market profile of the partners, practice and office; and coordinate efforts with international colleagues and other marketing team members on global cross-selling efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the respective partners to develop and execute on business development strategies.

Essential Job Functions

Kirkland & Ellis is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented specialist to support the marketing/business development efforts of the Firmwide transactional practices (M&A/Private Equity, Debt Finance and Capital Markets, among others) in our New York office.

The Transactional Specialist is responsible for the writing, coordination and execution of various business development tasks and projects including the creation/aggregation of content for client pitch materials and substantive presentations. Above average written and oral communication skills are required as the position requires drafting new content as well as compiling and editing content prepared by others. The individual in this position will direct content development and delivery, and have exceptional command of Microsoft PowerPoint to produce a high-end, professional product.

He/she will work with the attorneys, Knowledge Managers and other business development department professionals in writing and developing tailored and compelling collateral, and proposal and pitch responses for new business opportunities. The Transactional Specialist also will provide assistance in the execution of long-term projects, including the acquisition and cataloguing of content to build a solid suite of materials.

The ideal candidate must be able to verbally communicate and coordinate with high-level executives and contacts, both internally and externally, in a professional and positive manner. In addition, s/he must be willing to accept ownership of projects and be successful in driving those projects, as well as daily tasks, to an effective conclusion. This role has a strong focus on the research and analysis of press releases, news items, deal documents and information from a variety internal and external market intelligence platforms. You will need to understand the elements of an M&A transaction, be able to distinguish among various types of transactions, and have the ability to convey complex information effectively.

You will report to the Business Development (BD) Manager in the New York office, and will work closely with other transactional team members. You will also communicate and collaborate daily with the nearly 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader business development, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international BD team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.

  • Refine and curate core materials related to specific industries, practice descriptions and representative experience;
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with partners, business development and marketing managers;
  • Work with members of the marketing and business development team, attorneys and other departments to develop strategic, client-centric proposals, tailored pitch material, and track results;
  • Work with the proposal team to ensure that deadlines are met;
  • Assist with content management of past and current proposals;
  • Provide excellent internal client service, including responding promptly to client requests, meeting commitments and managing demanding attorney situations; and

Essential Job Functions

Kirkland & Ellis is seeking an energetic, organized assistant to support the marketing and business development efforts of the Firm’s Investment Funds Practice Group as part of the Business Development (BD) team in our New York office.

The assistant will handle a variety of functions, including events, pitches and proposals, contact relationship management, branding, business/relationship intelligence, and internal communications

You will report to the Investment Funds BD Manger in New York and will work closely with two other local team members. The assistant will also communicate and collaborate daily with the more than 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader BD, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm. Our international marketing team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with event planning and execution of seminars and receptions, industry conference and charitable sponsorships, speaking engagements, client entertainment and other events related to the promotion of the investment funds group.
  • Assist in the production of marketing collateral and pitch materials, responses to RFPs and client presentations, including proofreading, formatting (must have exceptional PowerPoint skills), editing, printing, binding and delivery.
  • Manage information in the Firm’s contact relationship management (CRM) system, including the review and creation of mailing lists used for direct mail campaigns.
  • Conduct research and prepare intelligence reports on clients, potential clients, competitors and target industries.
  • Help with survey responses and award submissions as needed.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Provide administrative assistance, including budgeting and reporting, as needed to the Investment Funds BD Manager, NY Office and BD department.
