Your Opportunity

This role is situated within the North America region in the San Francisco office. Reporting to the Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner – North America (Commissioner), you will represent the interests of Queensland in market through the identification, promotion and facilitation of foreign direct investment opportunities from North America into Queensland. You will provide assistance in business activities as required and be responsible for developing and maintaining effective networks, consultation, negotiation and liaison with key stakeholders to deliver investment outcomes to Queensland.

Your Contribution (key responsibilities and accountabilities)

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Represent and advocate for the interests of Queensland in North America by initiating and managing investment activities in agreed, specific technologies and market sectors
  • Work with the Commissioner and the Director, Investment in advancing Queensland strengths as a highly attractive destination for investors and supporting the foreign direct investment strategy for TIQ across the North American market
  • Support the Commissioner in maximising economic development outcomes for Queensland and provide specific advice on current and potential trade and investment issues and opportunities for Queensland in North America
  • Identify, recommend and implement approved strategies for promoting and improving trade and investment between Queensland and North America
  • Work with a broad range of private and public sector stakeholders to facilitate trade and investment opportunities for Queensland in North America
  • Assist stakeholders in North America to identify and take advantage of trade and investment opportunities in Queensland
  • Plan and implement programs for visiting North American business and investor delegations to Queensland and actively co-ordinate and support visits by Queensland Government Ministers and officials to North America
  • Provide strategic links with targeted businesses to deliver maximum growth and export and investment opportunities for Queensland
  • Contribute to the development of Queensland’s trade and investment attraction strategies

The Ideal Candidate for this Role (key capabilities)

To determine your suitability for the role, you will be assessed on the following key capabilities that link to the “key responsibilities and accountabilities” for this role:

1. Thinks strategically and brings sound commercial acumen, an understanding of government and the credibility to contribute substantially to international investment activities

2. Demonstrates a deep familiarity with North America and Australia and have at least 7-10 years related business experience

3. Provides advice to stakeholders that is rigorously considered and supported by a clear rationale

4. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the formulation of strategic priorities then support these with purposeful and systematic actions.

5. Possesses excellent communication and negotiation skills and has a high level of resilience while operating in a high-pressured environment with competing priorities.

While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, practical experience in foreign direct investment or international business and/or qualifications in international business or a related discipline will be well regarded

Forestar Group Inc. is a residential lot development company and a majority-owned subsidiary of D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder by volume in the United States since 2002.
Forestar Group is currently looking for an Investment Manager. The right candidate is responsible for the acquisition and development oversight of real estate projects within a division or region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Oversee due diligence on prospective projects to include review of preliminary budgets and schedules; review of site related reports, development orders and plat requirements; review and provide comments on engineering plans, plats, and landscape plans; interface with local government as needed to determine the viability of a project; and review and provide comments on Investment Committee packages
  • Manage, coordinate resources for, and meet all entitlement needs for land acquisitions
  • Prepare memoranda and other documentation and analytics for corporate approval for land buys
  • Manage the budgeting and forecasting for potential projects, assume responsibility for the execution and financial performance of assigned projects
  • Execute community development plans including construction of streets, utilities (wet and dry), amenities, common areas, storm water management facilities and entrances
  • Create and maintain development budgets
  • Review and approve monthly contractor pay applications
  • Interact with county and/or municipal governments on various issues surrounding permitting, development and construction
  • Attend various community and/or governmental meetings
  • Meet with engineers, trade partners and government agencies
  • Oversight of land development activities provided by a development partner, ensuring that projects are completed in accordance with the company’s business plans and objectives
  • Monitor development phases and entitlement processes post-closing
  • Responsible for bond maintenance
  • Ensure contractors, consultants and trade partners comply with all company policies, procedures, standards, laws and regulations
  • Lead, or assist where appropriate, with negotiations for the sale of residential lots to homebuilders
  • Develop business community relationships and scout other avenues for possible acquisitions

  • Ensure all aspects of the NPDES/SWPPP program for each assigned project comply. Reporting and documentation on all projects under development are current
  • Responsible for Homeowner’s Association for assigned projects until the residents assume control
  • Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
  • Ability to travel overnight
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A., B.B.A., B.S., etc.) from a four-year college or university

Essential Functions:
1. Support aggressive growth ambitions in the North American renewables business (wind, solar, energy storage and energy services)
2. Lead wind investment decision process, papers and presentations for EC&R / E.ON SE Board consideration
