Applied Behavioral Scientist – Health Concentration

The product design team is comprised of senior multidisciplinary experts, collaborating with cross-functional partners to design novel, effective, and engaging solutions that help patients/users improve their health. The team plays a critical role in uncovering the market/user needs and bringing together clinical, behavioral, and data science to make key product decisions. About the position
Yours is one of a pair of roles devoted to Applied Behavioral Science, a discipline that we define in two parts: maintaining a focus on behavior as the outcome of interest and the application of the scientific process to developing interventions that change behavior. Reporting to the same leader and living in the same team, you and your peer will overlap in methodology but bring unique perspectives informed by your previous experience: while your peer comes from a design-heavy background with an emphasis on technology, you will have experience with improving both individual and population health through Applied Behavioral Science. This is a role for someone who is passionate about in-situ experimentation as a key component of Applied Behavioral Science to drive business decisions.
This is a full-time position offering an exciting working environment in a rapidly growing team, competitive salary and great benefits. The position requires collaboration with teams and partners based in Berlin and New York, hence preference for EST and CST time zones. YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibilities of this role, Applied Behavioral Scientist – Health Concentration, are to:
- Use your expertise in Applied Behavioral Science to help create healthier short- and long-term behaviors through the four phases of behavior science:
- Behavioral Strategy: in collaboration with stakeholders, defining the specifics of the target population and desired outcome behavior, including how it will be measured.
- Behavioral Insights: leading the research that yields both quantitative and qualitative observations about the existing pressures that create behavior.
- Behavioral Design: assisting in the design of proposed interventions by ensuring they remain clearly connected to the behavioral insights and focused on the behavioral strategy.
- Behavioral Impact Evaluation: guiding appropriate experimentation of behavioral interventions to evaluate to what extent they modify the existing rates of the pre-defined behavioral outcomes.
- Use your depth of knowledge to help others broaden theirs by facilitating workshops and trainings and creating clear, replicable processes that are learnable by others, to enhance our organization understanding of evidence-based health behavior change.
- Actively learn from your colleagues, including clinicians, design researchers and strategists, content and experience designers, and business leaders, to broaden your own cross-disciplinary knowledge.
- Act as the accountable owner of behavioral science related to methodologies like CBT and DBT, as well as health and wellness topic areas like stress and sleep.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioral Science, or a related field;
- Strong experience in applying behavioral science in healthcare, ideally in a for-profit setting;
- Demonstrated competency as a generalist in both qualitative and quantitative methods; you should be able to facilitate a user interview by yourself and run basic inferential statistics like as correlations and simple T-Tests;
- Working knowledge of experimental methods, with an emphasis on the tradeoffs between certainty and resources like time and budget;
