(2.5) Is It a Waste of Time To Apply If You’re Not Perfectly Qualified?

April 2, 2015 by Career Change Coach

One frustrating but common predicament job seekers encounter is deciding whether or not to apply for a job if they don’t meet the employer’s qualifications.

While browsing job postings, you see a job that has the responsibilities and duties that match your interests. The day-to-day role is exactly what you’ve been hoping to find.

Then you see the minimal requirements and, although you have some of the necessary skills and plenty of passion, you don’t have ALL of the qualifications the company specifies.

Perhaps you have three years of relevant experience, not five. Or you have a bachelor’s degree, not a master’s. You’ve been in a managerial role but haven’t drawn up a budget before. You know you can do the job, but you don’t know if you’ll even be considered without satisfying each of the requirements.

Should you apply?

The “Customized” Hidden Job Search

April 27, 2015 by Career Change Coach

This module explains how to conduct a ‘Customized’ job search to find unadvertised job openings.

Use this strategy if:

  • You have time to look for a new job (e.g. landing a new job is NOT urgent)
  • You want to look for job opportunities at companies that really appeal to you… or
  • You want to simultaneously explore job opportunities at companies that really appeal to you AND get as many interviews as you can at as many employers as you can.

If you must land a new job quickly, I recommend skipping this strategy for now and using the “Universal” Hidden Job Search Strategy – and then coming back to this strategy after you start a Universal Hidden Job Search Strategy.

Here is a summary what you will learn and do in this module:

    1. Select the best potential employers to target now: (Module 4.1)
    2. Identify hiring managers and helpful company insiders who can help you get a job (even if they don’t know you): (Module 4.2)
    3. Conduct research to help you optimize your success: (Module 4.3) and (Module 4.4)
    4. Top strategies to easily and comfortably get your Job Magnet letter into the hands of hiring managers: (Module 4.5)
    5. Keep in touch strategies that will motivate hiring managers to contact you (Module 4.6)

Now it’s time to launch your job search to find unadvertised job openings at your Tier 2 companies.

Here’s how to do that…

Resumes, Job Search, Interviewing & More

April 5, 2015 by Career Change Coach

Over the past 18+ years, I have created and polished a series of high-quality and affordable coaching products and services to help my clients make their career transition faster and easier.

These include:

  • Preparing an effective resume that piques interest and wins interviews
  • Preparing a LinkedIn profile that gets found by HR and recruiters
  • Using job search strategies that can get interviews as fast as 1 week
  • Interview preparation and strategies to convert interviews into exciting job offers

My services and products differ from other career coaches in two important ways:

Fairness:

I do not require clients to purchase a one-price, all-inclusive coaching package. I believe coaching packages offered by many career coaches are unfair to people because most people will never use all of the services included in the package and the fees are very expensive (typically $2,000 to $5,000 for a complete A to Z package of coaching services).

Instead, I offer my clients what feels to me like a very fair model – my clients choose and pay for only the coaching time and products they want from me.

Personalized Coaching:

Many coaches sell expensive coaching services but they do not also offer affordable, high-quality products.

Other coaches offer coaching products (though few are high quality – I know, I’ve spent thousands of dollars checking them out), but they do not offer affordable coaching to answer questions that you have as you use their products. Ridiculously in my opinion.

I offer both – high-quality products at affordable prices AND affordable Quick Question coaching options to answer any questions you have as you implement those product strategies in your job search/transition. It’s a powerful and extremely effective combination.

Here are the affordable ways I help my clients make a successful career transition:
