SUMMARY

A sports agency representing professional athletes to Major League Baseball teams is looking for a sports enthusiast who would be interested in joining the team.

 

Responsibilities include procuring and negotiating multibillion-dollar employment and endorsement contracts for the clients (athletes), handling public relations matters, and deal with all aspects of a client’s finances, from investment to filing taxes.

 

This is not a 9-to-5 desk job. Sports agents must have a willingness to travel often to meet athletes, league representatives or even relocate to land the best deals for clients and support new signed players.

The position can expect to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, when negotiating contracts or endorsement deals or when involved in recruiting activities. Often work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

 

This job is for people who love sports (especially MLB) and want to be involved on a professional level to become a sports agent.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

 

Negotiate Contracts and Handle Endorsement Deals

  • Act as a representative for an athlete when negotiating a new contract, contract extensions, or endorsement signings. Review market trends and the latest contract signings, make offers and counteroffers, and explain contract details to players while keeping the athlete’s best interests in focus.

 

Oversee Player Marketing and Promotional Strategies

  • Effectively make sales pitch on the client to present the players to team owners and companies seeking endorsements. Manage the marketing and promotion of athletes. Supply news outlets and maintain “damage control” and maintain their professional images when any negative actions are displayed by the players on the contract.

 

Assess New Talent

  • Scout for new clients by using cold-calling techniques and referral systems. Assess new talent by viewing games and contacting players seeking representation.

 

Handle Client Finances

  • Help to ensure that clients are building assets, managing expenses, and making the proper distribution of income for payments, savings, and investments.

 

Other Duties Requested by Management as Needed

  • Form relationships with players, plan the sponsor parties and event attendance coordination, to assist off-season training and nutritional needs, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management preferred.
  • Fluency in Japanese and English.
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and professionally with athletes, team executives, lawyers and tax professionals.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and possible relocation
  • Analytical skills to analyze contract specifics, endorsement deals, and other documents pertaining to their clients’ finances.
  • Time management skills to help and support clients’ various requests in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of the baseball can be drawn on when negotiating contracts or building client relationships.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

An Agent Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of administrative tasks to provide support to the agent in all client and internal matters. The role provides the Agent Assistant a broad understanding of the entertainment industry in general and the representation business in particular. The ideal individual is a self starter and eager to learn with excellent communication skills. We prefer those that have experience in the entertainment field (casting directors, models, actors, influencers, etc.) but it is not required.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Screen all incoming calls and emails
  • Maintain call log and take detailed messages/notes
  • Set and confirm meetings/auditions for agent and clients
  • Generate submission letters for potential clients or casting partners per the direction of the agent
