The Database Architect is responsible for the design and architecture of databases, data warehouses, and data for business intelligence tools. PRISM is a joint powers authority of California public entities, which was established in 1979 to provide insurance and risk management services to California’s counties. Since then, our membership has expanded beyond the counties to include numerous other public agencies such as cities, schools, joint powers authorities, fire districts, etc. Recently, PRISM has expanded to include agencies in other states.
As the organization has grown, the amount of data and dependency on data has increased. More data is collected than ever, creating increased demands on staff to manage and maintain that data. Data collected is used in many ways to improve awareness, accuracy and accessibility to enhance PRISM’s programs and services.
This position will be responsible for working with the various departments throughout PRISM to take a lead role regarding all data and database initiatives.
As part of the Infrastructure Team in the IT Department, this position will report directly to the Chief Information Officer. However, duties will be spread across multiple departments/teams, and assignments and tasks will come from a variety of IT managers/supervisors in the organization. Therefore, working with multiple teams, and frequent changes from one project to the next will be a common characteristic of this job.
Duties will range from specific and creative, such as writing scripts to transform data or a process to more routine and operational like verifying database backups are successful and recoverable.
