General Summary

This position is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and managing onsite construction engineering activities, such as concrete, structures, and spillway work for construction projects in excess of $50 million to ensure quality and cost effectiveness.Essential

Job Accountabilities

  • Manage job controls to ensure compliance with contract, budget, schedule, forecasting and job costing.
  • Supervise, direct, and mentor project staff to ensure individual development and that project standards are met and work is completed on time and under budget.
  • Develop and maintain project schedule to ensure work is completed on time and under budget.
  • Provide technical support in construction planning, quality control, interpretation of design, application of construction methods, resolution and documentation of design conflicts, and constructability reviews to ensure successful job completion.
  • Develop, implement and administer project engineering procedures and other work controlling documents to ensure clarification of roles.
  • Represent company, project and/or department during client and project management meetings to ensure effective communication.
  • Develop and maintain all job reporting and logs to ensure project compliance.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.

Work Experience

  • 7+ years of construction experience with concrete, structures, spillway work, or similar.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), AGTEK Take-off and Primavera Scheduling software.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, etc. plus an in-depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between other functional units required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, plus demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support both administrative and construction activities as assigned by General Manager; review project plans and proposals, specifications & drawings, prepare cost estimates, write work plans, and ensure that field work is done in accordance with drawings & specifications
  • Self-perform work and supervise subcontractors as well as clearly communicate with vendors
  • Identify project responsibilities by determining the phases and elements of the project
  • Calculate time frames and sequences the stages of the project
  • Prepare work plans, assure quality control, manage and track costs and materials, schedule equipment, and administer safety programs
  • Code daily labor, purchase orders, subcontractor invoices, costs, quantities, actual expenditures, etc. for tracking in cost system

  • Works with the Project Management Team to ensure the successful completion of on-going or new projects.
  • Monitors actual costs and complete current project(s), accounting for materials, services, labor, and other associated costs.
  • Procures subcontractors, permanent materials and consumables, and services from suppliers for current projects as required by project needs.
  • Interprets project plans and specifications.
  • Provides interface with project team members, suppliers, customers, and others who are involved in project work.
  • Ensures that project team members are provided a safe work environment and are knowledgeable of safe work practices and policies.
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
  • Assist in the development of bid proposals for upcoming marine construction and services projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Professional Engineer License.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Knowledge of construction safety as well as current Federal & OSHA requirements.
  • Broad knowledge of and ability to understand project scheduling and cost control.
  • Ability to read and understand project owner specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with CAD, PC software packages typically associated with engineering (i.e. Scheduling software), Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Able to work well individually and in a group environment, fostering a team approach.
  • Organizational ability – able to plan, prioritize, organize and monitor activities and projects.
  • Prior Field experience in the marine construction industry preferred.
  • Must be qualified and physically able to drive regular passenger vehicles to visit work locations and job sites.
