This is professional civil engineering work at an advanced level, involving supervision of transportation, utility, drainage, and site development projects, including the planning, investigation, location, design and construction of municipal engineering and public works projects. Work involves advanced application of engineering skills and knowledge to perform difficult projects; and lead supervisory responsibility over other technical and professional employees assigned to specific projects. Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

As a Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations to contractors, engineers and facility owners related to assessment findings and repair recommendations.
  • Conducting/leading field surveys and condition assessments either solely or with a team of forensic investigators.

Geotechnical Instrumentation Engineer

A Geotechnical Instrumentation Engineer will be responsible for instrumentation and monitoring. The Instrumentation and Monitoring Engineer must be a person who is registered as a Professional Engineer in California and have a minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in among other areas, geotechnical and structural instrumentation installation with real-time reporting systems, verifying sensors are correct and calibrated, monitoring of open excavations, shafts, TBM and SEM tunnel headings, and monitoring and review of survey data on buildings and ground movement associated with tunneling projects of similar size and scope.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Developing the program and procedures for installing, protecting and maintaining equipment and instrumentation.
  • Responsible for overseeing, reviewing or developing a surveying and geotechnical instrumentation monitoring plan for Tunnels and Deep Excavations.
  • Ensuring baseline readings are obtained before starting the related construction activities.
  • Ensuring surface and sub-surface ground movement and groundwater pressure monitoring is conducted in advance of construction.
  • Providing appropriate supervision for instrument installation, monitoring, calibration checks and maintenance.
  • Maintaining a calibration register of all instruments and equipment.
  • Ensuring all data is correctly entered into the Project database; and, M. Validating any electronic processing of data into information
  • Organizes teams of surveyors, geologists and engineers to oversee, verify or monitor ground and structure behavior during tunneling and cut and cover excavations to ensure structure stability and conformance with tunneling specifications.
  • Insures timely review, interpretation and compilation of survey and geotechnical monitoring data.
  • Utilize software for collecting or presenting data in graphical form and electronic transfer of data to the parties involved to minimize reporting times. Includes analysis of data to compare to allowable values and observe trends.
  • Communicates with the Owner, Engineering Management Services Contractor and Design-build Geotechnical Engineer.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Civil or Structural Engineering or related field.
  • California registration as a Geotechnical Engineer or registration as a Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG).
  • Must have a minimum of Ten (10) years of experience in Geotechnical/Tunnel and Cut and Cover design as well as a Geotechnical Instrumentation Installation and Monitoring.
  • A strong knowledge of survey and geotechnical instrumentation that includes but is not limited to Multi-point Borehole Extensometers, Settlement Reference Points, Optical Prisms, Inclinometers, Groundwater Monitoring Wells, Strain Gages, Piezometers, and Extensometers.
  • Familiarity with Borehole Logging, Laboratory Testing of Soil Samples, installation and removal of instrumentation is essential.
