We are looking for a Specialist who will join our Scotts ProVista R&D team in Marysville, OH.

The successful candidate will become a full time member of Scotts’ Biotech team. The objectives for the Biotech program are to 1) develop novel and value-added turfgrass varieties and blends, 2) develop data to support claims around these products, 3) understand and develop programs to ensure success to the consumer when using these grasses, and 4) work closely with cooperators to produce these products effectively and economically. The successful candidate will be working in a hands-on environment within a multifunctional team and should have strong communication skills.

Job Description

What you’ll do in this role:

Typical project assignments may include:

  • Prepare, establish, maintain and evaluate turfgrass field trials
  • Measure the effects of biotic and abiotic stresses and management on turf performance using technology and visual methods.
  • Collect, record, analyze, and present experimental data
  • Facilitate cooperative research projects with universities that may require travel
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources
  • Manage temporary employees
  • May have to work occasional weekends in the greenhouse or field

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • BS or MS degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science or related field.
  • Experience with turfgrass field plot trial work
  • Experience with field plot evaluations (NTEP-style ratings)
  • Familiarity with field plot design and statistical analysis
  • Turfgrass breeding and development experience a plus
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication
  • Familiar with turfgrass and weed species and identifying characteristics
  • Familiar with landscape tools, turf maintenance equipment, turf maintenance chemistries, and irrigation operation
  • Familiarity with agronomic practices and seed production
  • Upbeat and positive attitude

Biotech & Agritech Science Manager - Open Innovation

This Senior role will be responsible for driving Open Innovation activities within “AgriTech and BioTech” fields for Ferrero Open Innovation (OI) in the America’s region: scouting for innovation, evaluation, business planning and project management. While the main geographic focus will be the America’s region, the Science Manager will interact with Technical experts within other functions at Ferrero and other Ferrero OI team members in Europe and Asia-Pacific. This position will report managerially to the Head of America’s Innovation Center and professionally to Global OI “AgriTech and Biotech” Stream Leader.

Main Responsibilities:

Continuously monitor development and progress of scientific and technological innovations within relevant opportunity areas in Agrifood technology, Biotechnology and Food Sciences:

  • Lead identification and assessment of new scientific developments on food science, biotechnologies and AgriTechnology within the region
  • Remain on forefront of emerging industry trends and competitor products, strategies, and activities
  • Utilize technical and creative problem-solving skills to successfully translate scientific developments and internal stakeholder needs into clear opportunity and potential technical solutions
  • Leverage scientific knowledge and technical expertise to evaluate effectiveness, safety, and toxicological effects of new technologies
